Buy a calendar and win! Who would have thought that a trip to Reno would have lead to a $20,000 idea becoming a reality? Do not forget to get your 2008 copy and have a chance to win one of the money prizes. They will be on sale from mid August at our Lions club housing society office at Lions Terrace: 937 Bowron Court, North Vancouver; and by the Lynn Valley Lions Club at their premises: 1055 Premier Street, North Vancouver. Well after Geoff, Dennis and Gerry visited Reno a while ago for the Lions International USA/Canada Forum they came back with the idea to produce a fund raising raffle calendar. As a service club one of our goals is to raise funds in our community to support local charities. Finding new ways to do this is always a challenge. The Mount Seymour Lions Club worked on this project with photographs provided by one of the members and the selling of advertising space to local merchants which helped pay for the production costs. Our first calendar was produced for 2006 and, with most of the club's members selling each calendar for $20, we had a great success. So much so that we decided to repeat the exercise for 2007 and over the two years we managed to raise over $20,000 for our local charities. Each buyer of our calendars had a one in eighteen chance of winning out of the four quarterly $500 prizes and one of the fifty two $50 prizes that were provided each Friday throughout the year. Lots of winners were overjvoyed when the cheques arrived in the mail.
